Our Infirmary

Our Infirmary

"The sick, elderly and weak sisters are to be treated with unfailing love."

Constitutions 98
"The surest proof we have of really loving God is that we love our neighbour."

St Teresa of Avila

A place of care

One of the main reasons for building a new monastery was to provide care for our dear sisters who are sick or infirm in a purpose-built infirmary wing. This enables them to remain within the community and continue to participate as much as they are able in the life of Carmel. The infirmary wing is a very important part of the monastery, as it accommodates those sisters who have borne the burden of the day with great love and generosity. Their presence contributes so much to the strong sisterly community spirit which characterises Maryton Carmel today.

A good team

We are blessed to have some wonderful carers who look after the sisters in the infirmary with great kindness and dedication.  Some of us in the monastery have the privilege of working closely with the sick or infirm sisters by e.g. administering medication, accompanying them to appointments, going with them to and from the chapel throughout the day for Mass and the Divine Office and generally being there for them.

still full of sap, still green."
